Tradie 1 February 2015 There is an embarrassingly high number of tradie horror stories in New Zealand. Heard the one about the locksmith who got a key copied for every home he visited? (That certainly wouldn’t happen is you use a reputed a Auckland locksmith like Chubb!) What about the builder who never turned up, but charged someone anyway? Or the most common story, the tradie who surprised you with a mammoth cheque which makes your tiny quote look like $1.50. However this may soon become a thing of the past. A new, safer way to find a tradesman is to use a site like Builderscrack.co.nz. You post your job and tradespeople reply. A rating system shows you what previous customers think of the tradesman. He or she knows they need to do a good job to get decent feedback. A NZ Herald opinionist had a very positive experience with this site. Dianna Clemment said, “I needed a hand basin replaced. Paul at Roma Plumbing Limited had done 48 previous jobs, had five hammer (star) feedback for all categories: workmanship, sticking to cost, keeping to schedule, professionalism, and responsiveness. He turned up on time, charged only the quoted amount despite the job being trickier than expected, and cleaned up.” If you’re in the tradie business and are wondering where your loyal clients have gone, you can find them there.
