Construction & Development 31 December 2014 The Majestic Church in Christchurch has big plans for it’s new site. The church wants to build a chapel, auditorium, art studios, cafe apartments and a multi-story carpark building. You may have figured this is no small family church! Backed by 900 members, the church has 900 members willing to support the rebuild. The church is to be built on the high-profile spot between Montreal street and Kilmore street worth $10 million. They have lodged a resource consent application with the Christchurch City Council. These documents state the church plans to build a 219 seat chapel alongside a 700+ seat auditorium for regular Sunday services. The church is also opening it’s new doors to the wider public. Three studios for the creative arts, a recording studio, a dance studio and a cafe are also available for non-members. Six one-bedroom apartments are also planned. These apartments will be under the ownership of the Majestic Church. Not everyone believes churches need auditoriums, art studios, cafes and multi story carparks. For example this Hamilton church is quite comfortable being smaller and more community oriented. Information sourced from Stuff.co.nz Rebuild.
